Tulip Bomb 05:11
There ain't no illusion here There ain't no secrets here Just the bottom Welcome to the bottom Of the abyss Welcome to the abyss Here's the summit Of the heavens Welcome to the summit Of the mighty heavens Welcome to the heavens This is just the heavens The tiger's awake now She's on the prowl Can you hear her howl Can you feel her growl

She works hard (I've got a job) She works late (A job that pays) I could turn in but I'll sit right here and wait (I'll be home late) Till she comes home (Oh I'll be home) Back home to me (Eventually) My pillowcase expects the company (But don't wait up) I watch the clock but it moves slow When she'll return I just don't know She just might find me sprawled across the floor Now I've got time and I've got pride But I want you sleepin' by my side Don't wanna go without you anymore So I lie awake waitin' for my baby to knock on my door One o'clock; fold my hands and star right at the wall Two o'clock; she don't even call Three o'clock; madness starts sinking in Four o'clock; won't be long till I see her again And she says ‘stop you lazy fool’ ‘Why don't you get a job or go to school?’ But I'm too tired, tired, tired for that commute It's a full-time position loving you The sun starts rising in the sky I listen for her car outside I'm lying here but you won't hear me snore Her momma says ‘gets a working man’ Her friends say ‘get out while you can’ But she knows a man who waits ain't keeping score So I lie awake waiting for my baby to knock on my door So I lie awake waiting for my baby to knock on my door

I've been gone a long time Out where the city smokestacks curl Workin for a paycheck Trying to find my fortune in the world I know it ain't been easy on you to spend this time alone But I got on a train this morning and now I'm coming home I've been riding sideways Out where the cities disappear The sun is setting on me now Feels like I've been gone for 30 years I know it's been a long time since you've seen me at your door But I got on a train this morning, now I'm coming home. I know you might not recognize me in my city clothes And my new songs might make you scratch your head But take these flowers that I brought Show me you've made my bed And I'll show you all the ways that I'm the one you know I wake up when I want to No city noise as my alarm Garden-grown tomatoes ringing in that good ol' hometown charm. One day I'll find my fortune wherever I may roam But Lord, ain't it the best thing when you're finally coming home Oh Lord, ain't it the best thing when you're finally coming come

Old Postcard 02:18
I think I've become obsessed with your face (I keep finding it in places I go) I close my eyes and rub my fingers on my wrist (It haunts me like a song I used to know) I can't remember what I said to you (And I wish I could be left with that) I don't know if you're happier now But the thought of you with someone makes me sad But the thought of you alone isn't much better I would come upstate and visit but I can't stand the weather And I don't know your address anymore I'd spend all afternoon knocking on your neighbor's doors And showing them your picture And asking for the girl who made me die I don't think it would be a very good idea to try

A samurai who smells like flowers and smoke-filled towers A dear old friend, my Peter Pan, some far away land Feels the wind change Breathes in wine stains Calling my name A monk who says the same old prayers of "nothing cares" The sailor of the northern lights and pastel nights Kiss in vertigo Twirling on tip-toe Chill in inferno Leave the lone wolf alone We're all alone Sinking into stone But maybe on our own We'll see the Twilight Zone We'll see the Twilight Zone

The birds built a house for me in the trees But I didn’t see them pass by The fish in the lake said come in and join us But I keep my eyes focused on the road ahead I know I’m not dead So I keep moving on Til my work is done I know I have roads left to follow I hope that I find where they lead, oh I don’t know, but I follow my inner compass Winter and fall are nothing at all to me Everything has its place Summer goes by in the blink of an eye But I still remember your face Cause nothing lasts But I let it It won’t pass I won’t forget it Not at all Not at all Not at all Not at all Not at all You remind me of seventy five years ago I was playing another body Wasting the same time over again Waiting for finding the self that I contain inside Can’t hide from the truth One foot in front of the other And there is no other way through Not for me Not for you Not for us

I think my snooze button loves me more than you I ain’t got shit to do till the afternoon So please give me five more minutes Please give me ten more minutes Please wrap me up in the blankets Please let my eyes fade to blackness Freckles like acupuncture on My aching shoulders Eyes like cups of coffee On a Wednesday morning Please just give me five more minutes Please just give me ten more minutes I think Ive got more tics than father time Drivin to the city late at half past nine So please give me one more kiss Please give me ten more minutes Please wrap me up in the blankets Please let my eyes fade to blackness Freckles like acupuncture on My aching shoulders Eyes like cups of coffee On a Wednesday morning Please just give me five more minutes Please just give me ten more minutes Please give me fifteen minutes Please give me twenty minutes

about

To give up a handheld summer grenade for god;
To sacrifice the pucker and pinch of yellow and yearning;
The power of the tongue.
The monk gave it all up
And he knows nothing of easy,
And he knows nothing of squeezing out
the last gasp of air only to suck in the air of color and living things.
If the lemon is my heart then god is the grey cloudy skies that drag and drone
until the horizon turns upside down and the vines turn to varicose veins.
But imagine if god had the same rush of citrus;
Imagine if god were just clever enough to turn itself and life's laborious fruits into lemonade.
Would it still taste as sweet as a summer's day?
Would it still beat blood out of my chest?
Or would it pump the tension of sweet and sour,
Good and evil,
The pucker and the peel,
Til there was nothing left for me to do but kneel on the vine and pray thanks
even on cloudy days?
Not a grain of sugar as sweet as accepting being a grain of sand on the beach.
Does the monk have scurvy?
Or has he just already found his dose of vitamin C
Tanning in the cosmic summer
And soaking up the biblical breeze of ten hail marys?
