Monkey's Elevator

This train's run away for the day
Up to the pearly gates
Counting each mile with a smile
You don’t need a ticket to ride
So long as you can abide
With all of us losing our minds
This is a one-way trip to the other regions, my friend
Where you don’t gotta care about the politics or the pop songs
Or paying for your hot dogs at the shopping malls
Cause we’re sick of it!
We’re sick of the whining and dining and complaining and raining of false compliments
God help me, I hear another empty-minded jackass telling me to "keep calm and carry on"
Because I think we all could use a little less calm
A little less vaseline lip balm
A little less gasoline and napalm
You a cat on the peace train? You being Osbourne again on the crazy train?
I just wanna be left alone on my own train of thought
I think we all just wanna be left the fuck alone to mind our own bad religions
and train in vain for the day we can be out of office
and out of order
and out of our minds

I'm a hyena
This barren plain of tarmac
Waiting for the sign of your car
No motor for this miserable Monday
Your sheets, your sheets
The clouds look excited today
Am I a little grey today?
A little touch of grey
It's half past nine
From Russia, with love
To you, my sweet dove
I french-kissed your mistress
and get so breathless

Should I?

If I told myself it’s sink or swim
If I took the plunge and still breathed in
Would I get high?
Or would I be dry?
If I hanged myself out at the zoo
Just to find myself something to do
Would you still cry?
Bat a lazy eye?
If I charmed our snakes each one by one
Just to see if we could have some fun
Would you sssssay hi?
Would you sssstop by?
I'm feeling like a bar stool
Supporting anybody who
Feels like a fool
Tryin to be cool
Live the golden rule
That’s why I’m a crutch for you, my baby blue
If I took myself to feed the birds
To throw away all of my rotten words
Would you walk by?
Offer up a sigh?
If I tossed my coins into the well
And took a hammer to the wedding bells
Could I still try?
Could I say goodbye?
If I wrapped my lips around a gun
Just to see how you kids still had fun
Could we still try
Would we still try?
I'm feeling like a bar stool
Supporting anybody who
Feels like a fool
Tryin to be cool
Live the golden rule
That’s why I’m a crutch for you, my baby blue
Could we still try?

Ain’t got a dime in the bank
Lost all my money on a red rigged horse race
And oh the local coroner
Got me a job at the funeral parlor
Shakin' hands and takin' numbers
He says I got a knack for makin' dead folk comfortable
And that ol’ weathered crow on my shoulder
Yeah he feeds and he grins and he always says
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
Well the rose bush I planted for baby
It’s sick and spotted clammy with a touch of the blight
And my luck is on a ride-along
It’s hopin' for a story to explain the morning glory
And that ol' crow on my shoulder
Yeah he’s still laughing and sayin' again
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
And my mirror's got an evil eye
It's juicing all of my bad days for the one that I die
And that wary one-eyed crow on my shoulder
He still laughs with his mouth full of rat and says
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
So it goes
I heard your tongue speakin' my name again
Prancin' and dancin' around all the consonants
Does it still taste like a honey bunch?
Can you hear it when you’re dead-end drunk?
So lemme hear you say it
Lemme hear you say it

Thornbird
02:35
|

She took off to swallow a cup of crushed up stained glass from a Vatican window
that’s been open for just a hair too long
She always did like to wet her backwards beak on continental breakfast
Slake her thirst on holy water
Cups of holy water
My homebound thornbird's in need of a rest
In her bed on the back of a rhino beetle
On her pillow of cactus needles
Oh I wish my thornbird would come back home to nest
Come back to test my love
Oh my wish my thornbird would come back to me
Come back to test my love

Take me back to the problem
Remind me what we said we’d never do
And I’ll change the subject
Turning tail on the merry go round again
Yeah we’re running in circles
Comin out of a tunnel just to end up in the rain
I’ll wait for the morning
Despite how the storm always ends the same
But that’s okay
You can take me where you want
You can take me where you think this needs to go
But I digress
There’s still a way to go
There’s still a lot of time before we reach the coast
And many miles till we bring it back home
This isn't what I intended
But I'll take your hand if you'll take mine
We've got a mountain to climb, made up of lost time
But we'll find a way around
Before we burn each other down
We preserve the bandaids
And dress the wounds in our salt and limes
Till we’re almost recovered
Then the storm blows the doors right off again
But that’s okay
You can take me where you want
You can take me where you think this needs to go
But I digress
There’s still a ways to go
There’s still a lot of time before we reach the coast
And many miles till we bring it back home

Goodnight Mountain
03:23
|

Alone again, alone again
In the shadow of the mountain
As I send, as I send
All my love to you, my friend
All my love to you, my friend
While quiet highs and quiet lows
Ebb away with the river flow
It ain’t so bad here on my own
Thinking 'bout the things the mountain knows
Thinking 'bout the things the mountain knows
So as you lay in bed
And rest your lovely head
Think of me and you’ll see
Me coming around the bend
Think of me and you’ll see
It ain’t so bad there in the end
But then again, then again
Your better days are still around the bend
And until then, until then
I’ll dream of you, my darling friend
I’ll dream of you, my darling friend
Don’t let your sorrow shake
Your hopes into hate
Think of me and you’ll see
Your happy days are just around the bend
Think of me and you’ll see
I’ll be your friend 'til the very end
So as you lay in bed
And rest your lovely head
Think of me and you’ll see
Me coming around the bend
Think of me and you’ll see
It ain’t so bad here in the end

I watch the birds
land right on the telephone wires
Today my luck has run out
I feel no pane from the glass I run into
as I fly the three stories down to the ground
I drink cold water and feel it dissolve
already my fingers are numb
I feel no pain;
Your face was a dream I saw
Today I washed all the memories away
Running around eating sunflower seeds
The edges get blurred all the time
It's what I endure if it's what I expect
As long as it's you when I try,
I don't think that I'd mind
Running around til the windowsill's dark
Our daylight gets blurred all the time
The ones I hold onto for the ones I give up
As long as it's you when I try,
I don't think that I'd mind
